[I/We] [am/are] [members/residents/customers/etc.] of [Organization Name] who are concerned about the potential impacts of Westchester County airport expansion. Specifically, [I/we] [am/are] uneasy about the potential health and environmental impacts of airport expansion on our families and our limited voice in shaping airport policy. Furthermore, [I/we] have concerns about the resulting impact on this area’s property values and quality of life.

These concerns lead [me/us] to urge that [Organization Name] become a “supporter” of the Coalition to Prevent Westchester Airport Expansion.  

Please join with over 2000 community associations, businesses, environmental groups, families and individuals to support this non-partisan, non-profit watchdog and advocacy group.  On issues such as noise pollution, drinking water contamination, and air pollution – as well as safety, security and tax rates – the public deserves a seat at the table.  Help make sure the airport remains a good neighbor and takes community health, safety and environmental concerns seriously while remaining a vibrant part of our economy.  

Did you know?
  • The airport lies barely a tenth of a mile from the Kensico Reservoir, and toxic groundwater contamination has been found there.
  • From sleepy beginnings, it has grown into the 3rd-busiest airport in NY State.  
  • 85% of flights are private/corporate planes with NO direct benefit to residents.
  • Given the airport's size (it's larger than LaGuardia), it has plenty of capacity to expand further.
While still relatively new, the Coalition is already having a positive impact on decisions related to the airport. The County Executive and Legislature are both working to implement the group's proposals.  Through the Coalition [Organization Name] will be kept informed about airport issues and hear about easy ways that the community can make a real difference.

Also, please consider establishing an Airport Committee, which [I/we] would be happy to help organize and lead.  This group would serve the leadership to make informed decisions on matters related to the airport.  It could act as a liaison with the Coalition, help keep everyone informed about risks of airport expansion and airport issues and impacts, gather community input on airport-related concerns, and represent us in county and local discussions.  To be clear it would be issues-oriented and not engage in politics or partisanship.

I am for a vibrant but limited & environmentally responsible County Airport that puts residents’ needs first. I want to see our government representatives advocating aggressively for community and environmental interests and ensuring that airport policy prioritizes public health and safety, the reservoir and environment, and our quality of life. Every operational decision at the airport deserves careful public consideration of its short and long-term impacts on airport capacity and the environment. I do not seek to close or cripple the airport, but residents impacted by worsening noise and air pollution must get relief as a matter of public health. The County should involve this Coalition early and often in airport policy making and planning. Count me as a Coalition Supporter and keep me informed via your newsletter and alerts.
