- Opposing Million Air's New HangarPlease direct an email/letter to your County Legislator, as well as the County Executive. On the left side of this webpage, we offer guidance for both. Also, you may learn more about this issue on our Current Concerns page under "Hangar Expansion". ___________________________________________________ It’s good to open on a personal note, such as where you live and how noisy air traffic impacts you, or your concerns about the proximity of the airport to the Kensico Reservoir and that a serious incident at the airport could pollute everyone’s drinking water. Then, in your own words, express some or all of these points: 1. Million Air’s new hangar proposal is expansion of airport facilities, which means more environmental impact. The county has been on record against any expansion since its 2003 resolution, unanimously signed by legislators. 2. Any changes at the airport should wait to be examined by the upcoming Airport Master Plan, progress on which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Latimer administration is restarting the Master Plan process. 3. In 2018, Million Air opened a big new hangar, and claimed planes newly based there would result in fewer takeoffs and landings than before. The evidence it has presented to date is not complete, and the Airport Advisory Board has asked for the data needed to properly analyze that claim. No decision should be taken without this. 4. Air travel is highly polluting and use of a private plane is especially polluting in terms of CO2 emissions per passenger mile. So these flights are exactly the wrong thing to do in the climate emergency. To learn more, check out the Coalition website's Current Concerns page under "Hangar Expansion"

- Protecting Reservoir from PFAS ContaminationRe. EPA Proposed Regulations on PFAS Cleanup [please direct to County, State, Federal officials] Dear _______: As I trust you are aware, PFAS contamination has been found in groundwater monitoring wells all over the Westchester County Airport, which sits adjacent to the Kensico reservoir. We, your constituents, live near the airport and/or drink water that flows through the Kensico. PFAS chemicals are a known health risk and PFAS contamination at Stewart Airport to our north has already resulted in the closure of Newburgh's reservoir. Indeed, airport-related PFAS contamination is impacting hundreds of communities across the United States. According to a New York Times article of April 26, 2019, the EPA has significantly weakened a proposed standard for cleaning up groundwater pollution at sites where these dangerous chemicals have been found. As a voter in your district and as a supporter of the Coalition to Prevent Westchester Airport Expansion, I adamantly oppose the EPA adopting weaker standards for dealing with PFAS. I ask that you send a letter to the EPA in opposition to these new weakened guidelines. Please advocate for the restoration of the more robust standards from the original version of the EPA's proposal. The EPA is accepting comments until June 10, 2019. Here is the link to its site for comments: https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=EPA-HQ-OLEM-2019-0229 I appreciate your concern and past efforts to preserve the security of our precious drinking water and your leadership on many issues in these trying times, and I thank you for doing the right thing now on this matter. Please send me a copy of your communication on this subject to the EPA and I will endeavor to make sure you get the credit you deserve among my friends and neighbors. Sincerely, Name Supporter, Coalition to Prevent Westchester Airport Expansion
